Mr. Reid

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the total cost of all social benefits paid in Scotland over the last fiscal year.

Statistics for the year ended 31st March 1975 are not available, but it is estimated that the cost of social security benefits was of the order of £630 million.

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the total cost of unemployment benefits and supplementary allowances paid to the unemployed in Scotland over the last fiscal year.

Statistics for the year ended 31st March 1975 are not available, but it is estimated that the cost of unemployment benefit and of supplementary allowances paid to unemployed persons was of the order of £70 million.
