§ Mr. Cyril Smithasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what target has been set by the Department for the construction of old people's sheltered housing units over the next 10 years.
§ Mr. KaufmanNo target has been set, but currently a third of all new building by local authorities, new towns and housing associations consists of one-bedroom accommodation, most of which is likely to be intended for old people. My hon. Friend has asked the Department to look into various aspects of the problem of housing for old people, including the provision of sheltered housing.
