HC Deb 24 March 1975 vol 889 c61W
Mr. Biffen

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what estimate he has made of the likely annual contribution that will be made to the capital transfer tax by those engaged in agriculture; what representations have been received on this topic; and what replies given.

Mr. Peart:

It is difficult to make such an estimate, which depends on the reaction of landowners and farmers and on such factors as transfer of assets between spouses. I have received representations both from organisations and individuals. I have replied that this is a tax of general application but that there are certain reliefs, including the relief in certain circumstances for agricultural land.
