HC Deb 20 March 1975 vol 888 cc509-10W
Sir George Young

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether she will set up an interdepartmental committee to co-ordinate the implementation of the recommendations of the Finer Report.

Mrs. Castle:

No. There is already adequate liaison both at ministerial and official level.

Mr. Cordle

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) if she will list all the persons and organisations which have made representations to her in support of the implementation of each of the several recommendations of the Finer Committee on Single Parent Families;

(2) if she will list all the persons and organisations which have made representations to her arguing against the implementation of each of the several recommendations of the Finer Committee on One Parent Families.

Mr. O'Malley:

I shall arrange for the available information to be circulated in the Official Report as soon as possible.

Mr. Spriggs

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what changes will take place in the earnings rule from April 1975 which apply to single parents who have to rely on social security payments to maintain their families.

Mr. O'Malley:

There will be no change in April, but under the provisions of the Social Security Benefits Act single parents receiving supplementary benefit will, in the future, be able to earn up to £4 a week, instead of, as at present, £2, without their benefit being affected. The change will be made later in the year at a date to be announced.
