HC Deb 20 March 1975 vol 888 cc499-500W
Mr. Edelman

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many offices of profit are with his gift whose incumbents are not recruited through the normal Civil Service channels; what is their value; and in how many cases the salaries are in excess of £4,9990 per annum.

Mr. Crosland:

The number of offices receiving salaries or fees is roughly 1.300: the total remuneration of their holders is about £1,200,000 per annum; 35 of these office holders receive salaries in excess of £4,999 per annum. Of the 1,300 office holders, 257—who are members of rent assessment panels—are appointed by the Lord Chancellor.
