Mr. Stanley

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the number of repayment claims for charities and the amount of tax repaid in the year to 30th September 1974.

Mr. Robert Sheldon,

pursuant to his reply [19th March 1975], gave the following information:

The estimated number of repayment claims received in the year ending 30th September 1974 was about 78,000. An unknown number of these were multiple claims and it is not possible to give the number of individual charities. The amount of tax repaid was about £70 million.
