Mr. Freud

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many local authorities provide training courses for aides working in schools.

Mr. Prentice

In December 1974, 86 local education authorities in England and Wales were providing courses for the NNEB certificate of qualification for nursery assistants in the schools. Figures are not available on training courses for other kinds of aides.

Mr. Freud

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he will encourage local authorities to increase the number of training courses available for school aides.

Mr. Prentice

Not at a time of financial constraint.
