Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many general dental practitioners are employed in the National Health Service.

Dr. Owen

The number of dentists, including assistants, practising in the general dental services in England and Wales at 30th September 1974 was 11,528.

Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what are the average annual gross earnings of general dental practitioners from the National Health Service; how many general dental practitioners receive less than the average gross earnings; and how many receive between £15,000 and £20,000, between £20,000 and £25,000, between £25,000 and £30,000 and over £30,000 gross per annum, respectively.

For the calendar year 1974 the average gross fee earnings, including reimbursement of practice expenses, of principals providing general dental services in England and Wales throughout the year were £13,654. Details are:
