HC Deb 30 June 1975 vol 894 c328W
Mr. Noble

asked the Secretary of State for Industry if he is now in a position to make a further statement on additional aid to the textile and footwear industries.

Mr. Kaufman

I hope to make a statement soon.

Mr. Michael McGuire asked the Secretary of State for Industry (1) how many jobs have been saved in the North-West textile manufacturing industry up to now, as a result of the Government's plans for giving financial assistance for the purpose of stockpiling as announced in his statement to the House of Commons on 23rd May;

(2) if he will give an estimate of the number of jobs which will be saved in the North-West textile manufacturing industry by the implementation of the Government's plan for financial assistance for stockpiling purposes, as outlined in his statement to the House of Commons on 23rd May; and what he estimates the cost will be.

Mr. Kaufman

My right hon. Friend the Prime Minister said that such a scheme would be one of the possibilities to be discussed with the industry. A further statement will be made shortly.
