Bennettasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what advice he gives to local education authorities to carrying out Section 33 of the Education Act 1944 to ensure that they identify all physical and mentally handicapped children, between the ages of 2 and 5 years, for whom educational provision may need to be made.
§ Miss Joan LestorSection 34 of the Education Act 1944 imposes responsibility on local education authorities for identifying children who may require special education, and it prescribes formal procedures. In March 1975 the Department of Education and Science issued a circular of guidance on the discovering of children requiring special education. I am sending my hon. Friend a copy.
