asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, with regard to the latest available United Nations accounts, they will state:

  1. (a) the total outstanding debt;
  2. (b) the number of countries in default on their contribution;
  3. (c) the total amount contributed by the United Kingdom for such published accounting period.

The financial accounts of the United Nations are to be submitted on a biennial basis with effect from 1st January 1974. Figures for the 1974–75 accounting period will not appear until mid-1976. For the financial period ended 31st December 1973 (still calculated on an annual basis):

  1. (a) the total outstanding short-term deficit of the United Nations was 87.5 million US dollars;
  2. (b) the number of countries in default on 31st December 1973 on their contributions to the Regular Budget was 72;
  3. (c) the total amount contributed by the United Kingdom to the Regular Budget during this accounting period was 11,059,447 US dolars.
