§ Mr. Parryasked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) if he will make a statement on the proposed increase in Mersey Tunnel charges, details of which have been sent to him by the hon. Member for Liverpool, Scotland Exchange:
(2) when he anticipates that toll charges will be abolished in the Mersey Tunnels.
§ Dr. GilbertThe latest position is contained in the Department's letter of 16th July to Merseyside County Council of which my hon. Friend has a copy. Under the Mersey Tunnels Acts tolls are charged to repay loans raised to finance construction of the tunnels.
