asked the Minister for the Civil Service what plans there are for a reduction in the size and cost of Government in London when the Scottish Assembly is set up.

Until final decisions have been reached on the constitutional arrangements and the functions to be devolved it will not be possible to assess the staffing implications of set-

at present £11,360 per annum. Lord Jacobson does not wish to draw any fee for his services. There are at present no other members of the unit. Secretarial support is provided by the Civil Service Department.
