§ Mr. Gwilym Robertsasked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection if she will publish in the Official Report the prices and percentage change in prices of the more popular mass production British cars as at January 1973, January 1974, January 1975 and the latest available figures; if she will provide the corresponding statistics for foreign produced cars with the greatest penetration in the British market; if she will initiate a study into prices in the British car manufacturing industry; and if she will make a statement.
§ Mr. MaclennanPrices of both United Kingdom and foreign manufactured cars sold on the domestic market are regularly published in motoring journals. While I do not rule out a study I see no reason to make it a priority for a reference to the Price Commission. Proposed increases in the prices of British cars are examined by the Price Commission in accordance with the normal Price Code notification provisions for large manufacturers.
