HC Deb 04 July 1975 vol 894 c569W
Mr. Moate

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what proposals he has received with regard to a Maplin seaport; what is the Government's policy on this subject; and if he will make a statement.

Dr. Gilbert

The Port of London Authority considers that a seaport at Maplin will be required to meet the longer-term demands for facilities at the port. Authorisation of such a major development under the Harbours Act 1964 would, of course, require clear evidence of commercial viability and customer demand.
