§ Mr. Canavanasked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many complaints she has now received concerning widows who needlessly paid the full national insurance contribution.
§ Mr. O'MalleyWidows may ask about their contribution position at any office of the Department at any time, but it is known that several thousands have queried their position following recent newspaper publicity. Examination of the first 1,200 cases has revealed only two where contributions have been paid needlessly. I would refer my hon. Friend to my replies to my hon. Friend the Member for Central Ayrshire (Mr. Lambie) on 12th June.—[Vol. 893, c.242–4.]
