HC Deb 22 January 1975 vol 884 cc397-8W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Industry how many new jobs are expected to arise for males and females, respectively, in (a) manufacturing industry, and (b) in non-manufacturing sectors, in each of the districts and counties of Wales during each of the next five years.

Mr. Gregor Mackenzie

I regret that information is not available in the form requested. We do, however, know of about 24,600—18,100 male—jobs expected to arise in manufacturing in Wales over the next four years as a result of selective assistance under the Industry Act and from our information about the take-up of new and existing factory buildings. A breakdown of these jobs by standard planning sub-division is as follows:

Male Female Total
Industrial South Wales 15,100 4,960 20,060
North-West Wales 640 390 1,030
Industrial North-East Wales 1,250 860 2,110
Central Wales 840 190 1,030
West Wales 270 100 370
Wales 18,100 6,500 24,600

We do not have information about prospective new jobs in the non-manufacturing sectors.
