HC Deb 21 January 1975 vol 884 c336W
Mr. Michael Latham

asked the Secretary of State for Energy why he will not outline the specific reasons why he did not consult the Motor Agents' Association, but did consult some sources outside the Civil Service, before announcing his decision to permit a price increase of wholesale petroleum on 17th December 1974.

Mr. John Smith

The timing of the increase in the wholesale price of petroleum products on 18th December was a commercial decision by individual oil companies following the expiration of the 28 days' notice they gave to the Price Commission. It was not a matter for my right hon. Friend's decision.
