asked the Secretary of State for Defence what he calculates the cost of each MRCA will be at February 1975 prices; and what is his estimate of the total cost to Great Britain, including research, of building 385 MRCAs for the RAF.

By agreement between the partners in the project, MRCA unit production cost estimates are expressed at the price levels of the previous September. The estimated basic unit cost of the common version of the MRCA at September 1974 price levels is £3.9 million. The increase over the cost at September 1973 prices is entirely due to inflation and changes in exchange rates.

So far as other costs are concerned, I am unable to add to the answer I gave the hon. Member on 22nd November 1974.—[Vol. 881, c. 529–30.]
