§ Mr. John FraserIt is estimated that in England and Wales 396,000 young people left school for employment at the end of the 1974 summer term. The numbers of school leavers registered as unemployed in England and Wales in the following months were:
September 1974 33,491 October 1974 14,738 November 1974 8,616 Although these statistics do not define the term or year of leaving school, the great majority of those unemployed from September 1974 onwards would be 1974 summer term leavers.
I regret that owing to industrial action the counts were not taken in December 1974 and January 1975. The figures for February 1975 are not yet available.
