Rates of unemployment are calculated for travel-to-work areas by expressing the number unemployed as a percentage of the estimated total number of employees, including the unemployed. Kirkby is part of the Liverpool travel-to-work area for which the rate of unemployment at November was 6.8 per cent. Owing to industrial action at local offices of the Employment Service Agency, figures for December 1974 and January 1975 are not available.
