HC Deb 04 February 1975 vol 885 cc499-500W
Mr. Cyril Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what quotas are being established for 1975 in relation to the import of textiles from quota-controlled countries.

Mr. Deakins

The EEC Commission is in the process of negotiating textile restraint arrangements on behalf of the enlarged Community with India and Pakistan, and is preparing to negotiate with other major low-cost textile suppliers. The quota levels applicable to the United Kingdom will not be finally determined until each negotiation is concluded. Meanwhile the United Kingdom is continuing its existing restraint arrangements for the first three months of this year.
