asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many prosecutions there have been for tax avoidance in each of the last five years; how many were successful; what penalties were imposed; and how many of the individuals who were prosecuted were taxed under Schedule E and how many under Schedule D.

The table below gives details of prosecutions by the Inland Revenue from 1970–71 to 1974–75. I am afraid that particulars of the sentences imposed and the schedules under which tax was chargeable could be provided only by a disproportionate expenditure of time and effort.
