HC Deb 15 December 1975 vol 902 c444W
Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) how many physically handicapped persons were admitted to prison establishments in 1974;

(2) how many physically handicapped persons were in prison establishments at the latest available date;

(3) if he will indicate the age, sex and place of any physically handicapped persons currently held in prison establishments;

(4) how many mentally handicapped persons were admitted to prison establishments in 1974; how many were in such establishments at the latest available date; and what was their age, sex and the type of institution in which they were held.

Dr. Summerskill

Information is not readily available about individual prisoners having physical or mental handicap, but it is not thought that the proportion of such persons in prison establishments is larger than in the community generally. If my hon. Friend has in mind any particular matter affecting such persons and will let me have details I will be glad to look into it.
