HC Deb 15 December 1975 vol 902 c484W
Mr. Normanton

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection whether she can give up-to-date information on the incidence of accidents in the home arising from electrical faults with domestic appliances during the years 1972 to 1975.

Mr. Alan Williams

I regret that the information requested is not available. Details of available information are given below.

The United Kingdom fire and loss statistics for 1972—the latest available—show that in that year 21,642 fires in dwellings were attended by fire brigades where electrical equipment or installations were the source of ignition. The breakdown, including the number of casualties, is as follows:

Protection what study she has made of the increasing costs of funerals; if she will refer the question of funeral costs to the Prices Commission; and if she will make a statement.

Mr. Maclennan

I have not so far asked for a study of funeral charges, but if my hon. Friend cares to send me any information he has on this subject I will bear it in mind when considering further reference to the Price Commission.
