HC Deb 15 December 1975 vol 902 c431W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what was the total production and consumption of beer, including lager beer, in the United Kingdom last year; what proportion of these figures is attributable to Wales; from what main countries the balance of imports was obtained; and in what proportion.

Mr. Bishop

1,386 million gallons of beer, including lager beer, were produced in the United Kingdom in 1974, of which Wales produced about 3.4 per cent. United Kingdom consumption in 1974 amounted to 1,407.6 million gallons; separate figures are not available for consumption in Wales. Imports, totalling 612 million gallons, were drawn in the main from the Republic of Ireland, 66 per cent. of total imports; Denmark, 10 per cent.; Germany, 7 per cent.; and Belgium, 7 per cent. Exports and spoilt beer account for the difference between the supplies and consumption figures.
