Mr. Ashley

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will give the latest figures for the numbers of unemployed and the percentage unemployment rate for males and females for Great Britain and for each of the regions; and if he will list the regions in rank order according to the increase in the percentage rate of unemployment in the past year.

Mr. John Fraser

The following table shows the information available. The most recent figures of the unemployed are for November 1975. Owing to industrial action at local offices of the Employment Service Agency full details of the unemployed are not available from October 1974 to December 1974. The regions have, therefore, been ranked according to the increase in the rate of unemployment since January 1975.
