HC Deb 11 December 1975 vol 902 c323W
Mr. Monro

asked the Lord Advocate under what provisions prosecutions can be brought for the molestation of wildlife in Loch Ness.

The Lord Advocate

It depends on the type of wildlife involved. For example, wild birds are protected by the Protection of Birds Act 1954, as amended, deer by the Deer (Scotland) Act 1959, as amended, and various wild creatures by the Conservation of Wild Creatures and Wild Plants Act 1975.

It may be that Loch Ness contains some wild creature not covered by any of the existing statutes. If this is so, special legislation may be required to protect it.
