HC Deb 11 December 1975 vol 902 cc303-4W
44. Mr. Brotherton

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many days' supply of food he estimates is held in cold stores and warehouses within the five-mile corridor mentioned in the Dock Labour Scheme and within inland ports.

Mr. Peart

On 21st November 1975, 29 days' normal supply of carcase meat, 16 days' supply of poultry meat and 66 days' supply of butter were held in the 163 public cold stores in Great Britain, 95 of which are in port areas. Information is not available about stocks of food held in warehouses.

Mr. Jay

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the present volume of stocks held in official and commercial storage together of beef, skimmed milk and butter, respectively, in the European Economic Community as a whole.

Mr. Peart

According to the latest information received from the Commission, the total quantities of skimmed milk powder and butter held in official intervention stores, or in private storage with the assistance of Community grant, were 1,125,000 and 213,000 metric tons respectively.

The amount of beef currently held in official intervention stores is 243,000 metric tons. In addition there are stocks of beef held in private storage with the assistance of Community grant, but precise information about the size of these stocks is not available.

We have no information about stocks held in the Community in private store without payment of grant.
