HC Deb 09 December 1975 vol 902 cc115-6W
Mr. Biffen

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will list the EEC regulations desired to counter enzootic bovine leucosis, and indicate what progress has been made in securing the eradication of this disease.

Mr. Strang

There is no EEC regulation harmonising control measures for enzootic bovine leucosis. Member States with a national programme for the eradication of the disease may be authorised to impose import safeguards and West Germany has been so authorised by Commission decision 73/30/EEC of 23rd January 1973. The disease has not been recorded in the United Kingdom and our import precautions are covered by the derogations secured in the Accession Treaty.
