HC Deb 05 December 1975 vol 901 c473W
Mr. MacGregor

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what would be the cost to the Exchequer if the single and married personal allowances were increased to £700 and £1,100, respectively.

Mr. Robert Sheldon

If the wife's earned income allowance were increased in line with the single person's allowance, the total estimated cost would be about £700 million at 1975–76 income levels.
