HC Deb 05 December 1975 vol 901 c473W
Mr. Knox

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what a married man, with two children over 21 years of age and earning: (a) £2,000, (b) £15,000, (c) £20,000, and (d) £25,000 for a 40-hour (and no longer) working week, with four weeks' holiday a year, would receive after tax for the 41st hour of work assuming that that marginal hour of work is remunerated at the same hourly rate as the rest of the week.

Mr. Robert Sheldon

Assuming that the children are in full-time education and that the four weeks' holiday is paid holiday, the figures are as follows:

Earnings per annum for 40 hour week Average earnings after tax for 41st hour of work
£ £
2,000 0.625
15,000 2.16
20,000 2.40
25,000 2.04
