HC Deb 05 December 1975 vol 901 c367W
Mr. Hoyle

asked the Secretary of State for Employment why 1st July was chosen for paying the London allowance; whether it is his policy to make allowance payments to those with an anniversary date other than 1st July; and what is the present situation with regard to cost compensation.

Mr. Booth

The Pay Board Advisory Report on London weighting published in July 1974 recommended that allowances should be updated in July each year. The pay limits apply to any increases in London weighting on or after 1st August 1975, and they should be kept, together with the annual settlement within the £6 limit; those earning £8,500 or more should receive no increase. Reviews of London weighting with due dates before 1st August should be negotiated only in strict accordance with guidelines existing at the due date.
