HC Deb 05 December 1975 vol 901 cc362-3W
Mr. Rooker

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what are the functions of the Labour Attaché at the British Embassy in Madrid.

Mr. Harold Walker

The labour attaché at the British Embassy in Madrid is a specialist in labour and social affairs and within this sphere his functions are: to advise Her Majesty's Ambassador on current events in his field and their significance; to keep the Department of Employment and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office informed of developments of interest to them; to provide information on British policy, practice and events; to arrange contracts between persons and organisations in Britain and Spain respectively, as appropriate.

In the present situation in Spain it is important for Her Majesty's Government to have a proper knowledge and understanding of developments in labour and trade union fields.
