§ Sir J. Edenasked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection if she will take steps to ensure that in the further enforcement of price controls provision is made to enable hotels and restaurants fully to compensate for their expenditure on fire precautions, hygiene, maintenance and improvement, training of staff, advertising for foreign business and other similar essential items.
§ Mr. MaclennanIncreases in advertising costs are not allowable under the Price Code. Otherwise, the Price Code permits hotels and restaurants to increase prices to reflect increases in current expenditure for most of the purposes mentioned. Capital expenditure on fire precautions undertaken at the request of the local fire authority gives rise to an entitlement for investment relief under the code. My right hon. Friend has no further changes in mind.
