HC Deb 02 December 1975 vol 901 cc574-5W
Mr. David Steel

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many executions have been carried out in Rhodesia under the Law and Order (Maintenance) Act 1974.

Mr. Ennals

It has been reported that four sentences of death have been passed under the Law and Order (Maintenance) Act 1974—on Benson Ncube, Robbie Nyambabvu, Kurewahndada Muzheri and Shadreck Machisa. It is not known whether the sentences have been carried out.

Mr. David Steel

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what action Her Majesty's Government plan to take over Rhodesian executions of African opponents.

Mr. Ennals

Her Majesty's Government have frequently appealed to the illegal régime to halt the executions of their African opponents and I take this opportunity to repeat that appeal.
