HC Deb 02 December 1975 vol 901 c531W
Mr. Pardoe

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list in the Official Report all those regulations concerning the standard of braking devices and brake failure warning devices which necessarily apply to British manufactured cars exported to the United States market but which do not apply to cars manufactured for the home market.

Dr. Gilbert

The United States Federal standards relating to brakes on cars are set out in Title 49, Chapter V, Part 571 of the Rules and Regulations section of the Federal Register. These are lengthy and complex and a detailed comparison would require disproportionate effort.
