Mr. Frank Maguire

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many police, reserve police, full-time members of the Ulster Defence Regiment and part-time UDR (male and female) there are, respectively; how much money is being paid to each; and what is the total amount being spent on security in Northern Ireland.

For the current financial year, the estimated expenditure on pay and remuneration is as follows:

A figure for the total amount being spent by private and public bodies on security in Northern Ireland is not available. However, the total this financial year will include an estimated £45,532,000 for police services and £2,327,000 for the civilian search unit. Last year, the extra cost of military operations in Northern Ireland was approximately £45,000,000; this included the full cost of the Ulster Defence Regiment.
