§ Mr. BishopIt is still too early to make a full assessment of the likely supplies of winter fodder since a good deal depends on weather over the next three months. Conditions also vary from region to region. But I am keeping the situation closely under review in conjunction with the NFU. Most first cut hay and silages have now been carried; quality is generally excellent but yields are light. Fodder crops are growing well in areas where there has been sufficient rain. The Agricultural Development and Advisory Service is continuing its advisory programmes on feeding regimes; the promotion of forage conservation and grass utilisation; and encouraging the sowing of "catch crops" best suited to local conditions. Publicity is being given to the need to conserve as much straw as possible. I am satisfied that adequate supplies of cereals and proteins are available.
