§ Mr. Cartwrightasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what representations he has received from local authorities about the need to amend Section 8 of the General Rate Act 1967; and what replies he has given.
§ Mr. John SilkinRepresentations have been received from the Borough of Knowsley, the City of London and from the Association of Metropolitan Authorities asking that Section 8 be amended. They have been told that this would require primary legislation and that the Government does not intend to introduce any rating legislation until after the Layfield Committee has reported.
