HC Deb 07 April 1975 vol 889 c350W
34. Miss Richardson

asked the Minister of Overseas Development what further plans she has to support the work of the United Nations Disaster Relief Coordinator's Office.

Mr. John Grant

We joined with other Governments last year in sponsoring a resolution in the UN General Assembly calling for the strengthening of UNDRO. Since then we have taken an active part in discussions with the coordinator and interested Governments about how this can best be done, and a panel of experts has made specific recommendations about the new facilities required. It is my intention, in the light of these developments, to make a contribution of £200,000 over the three-year period 1975–77 to help in strengthening both the relief co-ordination and pre-disaster planning work of UNDRO. A Supplementary Estimate to cover this will be put forward in due course.
