HC Deb 28 November 1974 vol 882 c241W
Mr. Rost

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what action he has now taken to assist and advise local authorities, transport industries, the construction industry, and all Government establishments with which his department is concerned, to conserve energy.

Mr. Kaufman

For that part of the Government civil estate for which my right hon. Friend has direct responsibility through the Property Services Agency, action has been taken to secure economy in heating and lighting by enforcing authorised standards and by a programme of installation of better control equipment to eliminate heating during unoccupied periods. All staff have been reminded of the need to avoid waste, and in particular to turn off all unnecessary lights and appliances. Measures already introduced to save petrol and diesel oil used by official vehicles continue in force. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Energy will be making a statement about other energy conservation measures shortly.
