HC Deb 26 November 1974 vol 882 cc103-4W
Mr. Greville Janner

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many employees in travel agencies have been made redundant during the past six months; how much redundancy pay they have received; and how much pay including severance and holiday pay they have lost. each of the major shipbuilding areas of the United Kingdom to the latest available date; what were the figures on the same date in each of the last 10 years; and how these annual figures compare with the national average.

Mr. John Fraser

Perecentage rates of unemployment are calculated only for travel-to-work areas. Following is the information for the nearest corresponding travel-to-work areas at October each year:

Mr. John Fraser

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that redundancies involving some 1,100 employees in travel agencies have been notified to the Employment Service Agency during the past six months.

Information on the amount of redundancy pay received is not readily available, and could only be obtained by a disproportionate charge on public funds.

No information is available about severance and holiday pay which these people may have lost.
