HC Deb 26 November 1974 vol 882 c106W
Mr. Robertson

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will provide details of references made to the Royal Commission on the Distribution of Income and Wealth.

Mr. Harold Walker

Three references have been made to the Royal Commission. A standing reference to analyse and report on the current distribution and past trends in the distribution of personal income and wealth was made on 29th August 1974. Two further references, on higher incomes and on incomes from companies, were made on 22nd October 1974. Copies of Press notices giving details of the references have been placed in the Library of the House.

Mr. Robertson

asked the Secretary of State for Employment (1) how many persons from socio-economic groups 4 and 5 have been appointed to the Royal Commission on the Distribution of Income and Wealth;

(2) how many persons with an income of less than £4,000 per year, and how many persons earning only average industrial earnings, have been appointed to the Royal Commission on the Distribution of Income and Wealth.

Mr. Harold Walker

The members of the Royal Commission were appointed with sole regard to their suitability for the job in question. As regards their remuneration as members of the commission I would refer my hon. Friend to my right hon. Friend's reply to the hon. Member for Kingswood (Mr. Walker) on 20th November.—[Vol. 881, c. 433.]
