HC Deb 26 November 1974 vol 882 c139W
Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the number of temporary and permanent prefabricated houses in Scotland.

Mr. William Ross

At the last count, in 1972, about 3,000 houses remained of the early post-war temporary house programme. A substantial proportion of the houses built by public authorities over many years have incorporated varying degrees of prefabrication, and certain authorities have recently been providing small numbers of relatively short-life mobile homes to meet urgent demands of incoming industry. No information is held centrally as to the total numbers involved or the extent to which prefabrication methods have been adopted in the private sector.
