HC Deb 26 November 1974 vol 882 c152W
Mr. Lawrence

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment why it is necessary for the new driving licences to show the date of birth of the holder; and why it is set out in this codified form.

Mr. Carmichael

The date of birth is used to distinguish between drivers of the same name. It is scrambled to make it less obvious to the casual observer.
