HC Deb 25 November 1974 vol 882 c55W
Mr. Spearing

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will list the nature of the exchanges and visits financed by his grant of £20,000 to the European Education and Research Trust and indicate the numbers and nature of the persons participating in them.

Mr. James Callaghan

The Government's grant in aid to the European Educational Research Trust is made to assist the trust with its European exchange programme. The main objects of the trust are to promote education by the advancement of schemes for the teaching and study of the history, geography, science, art, literature and culture of the countries of Europe.

During the first six months of the current financial year there have been 22 separate group exchanges and study programmes supported by the trust out of the grant. It is not practicable to specify the numbers involved in all of these activities. The groups have been made up mainly from students and young people. They have also included local government officials, community service workers, miners and shop stewards.
