HC Deb 22 November 1974 vol 881 c568W
Mrs. Dunwoody

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will now consider making salmonella a notifiable disease in view of the depredations it has caused in Cheshire.

Mr. Strang

We do not consider that compulsory notification and the use of restrictions would be practicable or particularly effective as a means of controlling salmonellosis in livestock. We are looking at other possible ways of reducing the incidence of the disease and are doing what we can to help in individual cases.
