HC Deb 21 November 1974 vol 881 c523W
Mrs. Dunwoody

asked the Secretary of State for Trade, in view of the Indian export statistics showing that Great Britain is the largest importer of Indian films whilst having a nil export figure herself, if he will now consider instituting official discussions with a view to formulating a reciprocal trade agreement.

Mr. Deakins

As my hon. Friend knows, discussions on reciprocal trade in films have taken place between the Film Production Association of Great Britain and the Indian authorities, and further talks may be held early next year. I believe that this is the right way to proceed, and the full support of my Department and of the British High Commission in New Delhi will continue to be available to the association.

Mrs. Dunwoody

asked the Secretary of State for Trade when he expects to sign the Anglo-German film treaty.

Mr. Shore

I am in touch with my right hon. Friend the Foreign Secretary who, I hope, will be able to arrange for signature of the agreement by mid-December. I should like to take the opportunity of paying tribute to my hon. Friend and to those representing the industry for the part which they played in these negotiations.
