HC Deb 20 November 1974 vol 881 c435W
Mr. Alan Clark

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the designation of the police department that deals with complaints against the police force; how many officers are presently engaged in that department; and what proportion this represents of total CID strength.

Dr. Summerskill

The investigation of complaints against the police is not restricted to officers of a particular department. A high proportion of complaints is investigated by divisional officers. No central record is kept of the number of officers engaged on such investigations at any one time.
